The Amusement Woman: Confessions of a Geisha

Early 20th century, Japan of the Meiji period. Young Aoi Ichi is sold to the well-known Kumamoto brothel to pay off her family’s debts. It seems her fate is broken even before it has really begun: from the quarter of pleasures, as people commonly believe, no one returns. But even among the desires, vices, and humiliations of strangers, Ichi discovers something that should not exist here—humanity, compassion, honesty, and the strength to believe in herself and in others.

Drawing on real events of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, "A Woman for Pleasures" becomes a chronicle of a quiet but genuine revolution of the spirit. It is carried out by seemingly fragile girls who try to break free from the firm grip of patriarchy and the ruthless system of sexual exploitation.
