A loud scandal erupts in the kingdom: stubborn wives and daughters disappear from their homes and castles one after another, and then—rather than explanations—send the court attorney with documents, for maintenance, or even a divorce. Husbands and fathers are horrified. The courtyard is littered with complaints, and the king has to begin an investigation—at the same time intending to put a too-bold countess in her place.
But Duke Norfolk doesn’t consider what’s happening a catastrophe. He patiently weaves his web and waits for careless victims to walk straight into the traps set for them.
