Doctor Irigoyen and his son Julian become accidental witnesses to a family drama: the husband buries his drugged wife alive. Noble heroes rush to help the woman. But that’s only the setup of the book, in which the action will move from French suburbs to the Mexican savanna, and then to Paris; the village fields will be replaced by endless prairies, and the sea expanse—by the catacombs of the Paris “Court of Miracles.” Fate, embodied in the author, will bring noble heroes and cunning villains face to face again and again.
