After moving into a new apartment, an aspiring writer, Paul Varzhak, immediately meets his neighbor Holly, an extremely eccentric girl who is constantly surrounded by men and won’t stop talking. They clearly are drawn to each other, but the relationship develops strangely and painfully, since in a sense she is an expensive call girl, while he is supported by a married woman who pays for his apartment. Both of them desperately need money, and there isn’t any—this leads them into despair.
