"Commentaries on the Gallic War" is a work by Gaius Julius Caesar in which, in his characteristically precise, concise, and vigorous manner, he described his conquest of Gaul in 58โ50 BC, as well as two crossings of the Rhine and the landing in Britain.
The "Commentaries" possess not only the highest historical value. They also recount tactical and strategic military decisions, the peculiarities of Roman army life, and geographical and ethnographic details about the conquered lands and peoples.
