Two works by Fyodor Dostoevsky are presented to you—"Notes from Underground" and "A Nasty Little Story"—performed by Dmitry Bykov.
The narration in "Notes" is in the voice of a former civil servant living in St. Petersburg. Vladimir Nabokov, who generally disapproved of Dostoevsky’s work, wrote about the novella: "Here Dostoevsky’s themes, his stereotypes, and intonations are presented in the brightest way. This is the quintessence of Dostoevsky’s style."
The story "A Nasty Little Story" is written in a satirical manner with elements of the grotesque. The atmosphere of the work resembles a bad dream in which, if desired, one can find important psychoanalytic motives.
The audiobook also includes a lecture—an engaging talk by Dmitry Bykov about the works he has read.
