No textbook on the Law of God has ever had—and still does not have—such popularity as the textbook by Archpriest Seraphim Slobodsky (1912–1971). Written back in 1957 for our emigration to America, it underwent several reprints in Russian and English and for many years served as the main aid for studying the Law of God in Sunday and church general education schools—for children and adults alike. There are several “Law of God” textbooks by different authors, but the work by Father Seraphim Slobodsky is rightly considered the best among them.
And today, “The Law of God” by Archpriest Seraphim Slobodsky continues to be the main study guide for learning Orthodoxy for both children and adults. At present, it is the only complete textbook covering all aspects of Orthodox teaching and church life. “The Law of God” is a kind of Christian encyclopedia, where all the information necessary for an Orthodox Christian is presented clearly and concisely.
