Ivan Antonovich (Antipovich) Efremov (1908–1972) — an outstanding Russian Soviet science-fiction writer, a paleontologist-scientist, the creator of taphonomy (a scientific discipline that explains how and why remains of extinct animals and plants are preserved), a cosmic philosopher, and a social thinker. From the mid-1920s onward, his life is spent on expeditions, many of which bring valuable finds and discoveries.
The proposed collection consists of stories that combine adventure with science fiction. Their heroes are geologists, whose selfless search for natural resources is especially important during the Great Patriotic War and the postwar restoration of the national economy. In harsh climatic conditions and at risk to their lives, they find new deposits of useful minerals and make important scientific discoveries. The deep East Siberian taiga, stormy passes in Tuva, treacherous ravines of the Altai, and frozen hills of Yakutia do not frighten the heroes of this collection. And natural phenomena that at first seemed like wondrous and frightening miracles ultimately receive rational explanations. Listen to this audiobook and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of expeditions into the harsh regions of our vast Motherland.
