1995. Sixteen-year-old Tessa Cartwright is found barely alive in a blooming field of amber-colored rudbeckias, in a common grave where a serial killer hid his victims’ bodies. And it was her testimony that helped put behind bars—and sentence to death—someone named Terrell Darcy Goodwin.

2004. Just a month later, Goodwin’s sentence will be carried out. And then, right in front of Tessa’s window, rudbeckias appear that were planted by someone unknown. Who did it? A copycat of Goodwin? Or, back then, many years earlier, a girl tortured by the horrors she’d lived through, unable to think coherently, sentenced an innocent person to death—while the maniac remained free?

The only one willing to help Tessa figure out what happened is Goodwin’s lawyer. Meanwhile, Tessa keeps receiving ominous “gifts”… again and again…
