This book tells children about the heroic pages of our history during the time of the First Crimean War. The main events take place in Sevastopol—the city where the decisive battle unfolded, and where Russian soldiers and civilians showed astonishing resilience, courage, and bravery in defending their native land. The book will be interesting both for middle and high school students and for their parents. Its authors are the famous traveler Fyodor Konyukhov and the children’s writer Ilya Ilyin.
Fyodor Filippovich Konyukhov (born 1951) is a professional traveler, captain of long-distance ships, pilot of a free aerostat (hot-air balloon), a musher for dog sledding, mountaineer, writer, and priest. Among Konyukhov’s achievements are five circumnavigations and multiple crossings of the Atlantic Ocean: 16 times by sailing yachts and once by a rowing boat.
Ilya Ilyin (real name Ilya Khasanovich Chvyrov, born 1957) is a Russian journalist, playwright, and children’s writer. In the recent past, he was the editor-in-chief of the printed version of the humorous magazine “Yeralash.” He collaborates with other children’s publications and takes part in film projects. He also travels a lot: he has been to the Arctic, the Kuril Islands, and crossed Kamchatka.
