North Carolina. The early 19th century. Linda was born enslaved, but until the age of six she didn’t suspect it. She had a joyful childhood and a loving family. But in the future, instead of a happy marriage and motherhood, she was destined to play the role of a silent thing, a forever servant. When her parents die, she ends up on an auction platform, where she is sold to a new master. Every day she must endure the master’s harassment, his wife’s jealousy, and hard labor under the scorching sun on the plantations. For an escape, she faces prison or even death—until, one day, she decides to put an end to injustice and fight for her freedom.
