The exclamation “What idiots!” addressed to Americans became Mikhail Zadornov’s “calling card” thanks to parodists. Americans believed in such an attitude toward them from the Russian satirist writer so much that for several years they refused him a visa. However, few people know that when Mikhail Zadornov first visited the USA in the late 1980s, he was delighted by the Western way of life. Later, in the 1990s, having seen the country more closely, like all Russians but noticing a little more than others, he changed his opinion. There was also time to take a closer look at his compatriots — former ones from the union republics and current ones as well. And in the 21st century, new observations accumulated, followed by new conclusions. Because “not everything in today’s America is perfectly smooth… However, it is not for us in Russia to judge them”!
