Georgy Ivanovich Gurdjieff was a psychologist, mystic, and philosopher—one of the most enigmatic figures of the first half of the 20th century. He was the creator of an esoteric school and the teaching of the “Fourth Way,” a system of self-development and inner renewal of the human being.
Half of his life, Gurdjieff spent searching for secret Knowledge, studying in Sufi schools and Buddhist monasteries. Later, he voluntarily accepted a mission aimed at saving Western culture from decline and destruction.
The name of this unusual person is surrounded by mystery and legends. Some compare him to Count Cagliostro, Grigory Rasputin, and Helena Blavatsky, and attribute to him hidden power over dictators and leaders. Some consider him a great teacher and prophet, while others see him as the greatest charlatan and fraud. In any case, Gurdjieff’s personality and ideas had a significant impact on the development of modern Western philosophy and culture.
“Views from the Real World” consists of recordings of Gurdjieff’s lectures and conversations with his students. They cover the period from 1924 to 1930 and present the core of his teaching in an accessible form.
