June 1941. Roads clogged with feverishly moving troops and refugees, air raids, and the confusion of the first days of the war. Amid all this chaos, Ekaterina Mezin—an experienced scout displaced from our time—finds herself. Holding not quite reliable documents, she struggles to find a certain Major Vasko. This is only part of a carefully planned ultra-secret operation by the “K” department of the Main Intelligence Directorate of modern Russia to prevent catastrophic events at the start of the Great Patriotic War. A career officer of that department, Major Vasko, doesn’t care that Katya has already completed her assignment—he throws the girl straight into the furnace, ordering her to infiltrate the city, which has already been left behind by regular units of the Red Army. There’s no choice, because if historical events can have several versions, then for Katya Mezin the Motherland is only one!
