When the witch came out of the basement, it became very dark there. Feeling weak, Yulia sat down on a narrow sofa. She heard the sound of a chain on her leg. Her ex-husband, Harry, wasn’t in the dungeon—he’d probably managed to escape. He was beaten to make him reveal where the jewels were, but Yulia knew that his love for her had been strong. Now no one was beating her, and she assumed the bandits had gone after Harry, leaving Yulia with the witch, who gave her some kind of sleeping potion.

She had time to notice that an unfamiliar man was lying on the neighboring sofa. She didn’t know who he was or why he was here next to her in the dungeon.
