Description
Brigitte Reimann is a German writer from the GDR whose work reflects postwar Germany and the country’s division. Her novella "The Getting-Down-to-Work" tells of Rech, a 17-year-old orphan, who comes to work at an industrial combine, where she gets drawn into a love triangle. Written in the young adult genre, the novella features an unusual atmosphere—postwar Germany and life in barracks.

"Sister and Brothers" is another Reimann novella about a national catastrophe and the heroine’s attempts to prevent tragedy when her brother plans to flee to the FRG. These events unfold against the backdrop of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of the GDR and the FRG. The book is published in a softcover edition with flap covers used as bookmarks and embossed varnish elements to enhance tactile sensations.
