“Meetings in the Waiting Room” is the first book entirely made up of recollections about Bulat Shalvovich Okudzhava.
Its authors are completely different people: writers, poets, literary scholars, musicians, artists, film people—people who are not especially familiar with one another, yet are united by their love for the person to whom the book is dedicated.
Everything written by them was subject to no “censorship,” despite the fact that their impressions, descriptions of events, and evaluations differ and at times conflict.
As Bulat Okudzhava wrote:
…Everyone writes as they hear,
everyone hears as they breathe,
as they breathe, so they write,
ot trying to please…
The editorial board had only one selection criterion: how would Okudzhava himself have treated this publication? That is why some articles sent to the editorial office were not included in this book.
