Pak returns home from Egypt. Her husband didn’t meet her at the airport, and he isn’t at home. The apartment is full of things belonging to a not-well-known girl. And finally, in the bathtub her corpse floats. Terrifying…
The horror slowly fades. The action naturally moves to where the murdered girl studied—and where Pak studies: university, and a library for students of the humanities. Many quotes from Shakespeare and a piece of a funny review of the production of “Hamlet” appear exactly where they should.
The author treats her characters with care, even the killers aren’t painted with solid black.
If only the names and surnames weren’t so complicated, and places were called simpler—then it would be pure beauty. But the setting is Sweden, and you can’t change that.
