All That We Remember

The story begins with a woman lying on a car parking lot in a nightgown with forget-me-nots embroidered around her neck. Around her is a crowd of people in uniform who watch her, watch each other, and look up at the sky. This woman is Rose. She is eighty years old, and she has dementia. She spends her days in a nursing home, thinking about life and waiting for visits from her children and grandchildren. But when her neighbor is found dead, Rose begins investigating, trying to understand what happened. This is a story about how differently people see the world—and about the fact that some things may be inaccessible to others, yet they still notice something special.
