After stumbling in the very beginning of the 19th century, Russia lost Emperor Paul, but then, having risen, turned to reforms within Russia and—after winning the Patriotic War—also set about reshaping Europe. This path was filled with various events, sometimes dramatic. In this proposed book, we will consider this period and these phenomena mainly from the perspective of state and law: how the state mechanism worked, how legislative acts were adopted and operated, how the Great Reforms were carried out—primarily the peasant and judicial ones. We call this era (1801–1881) the Golden Age of the Russian state and law. For everyone interested in the history of the state and law.
