“It’s his three-year crisis,” we say as we look at a screaming toddler. “Oh, that teenage crisis!” we complain when talking to a “rebellious” teen. But what do we really know about age crises in children? How many are there? At what ages do they happen? What are they for? What determines their intensity? How should parents behave so that the crisis resolves safely—and brings benefits?
