Innes’s novels of the 1940s are thematically connected with the events of the Second World War. In the genre of military adventure he wrote “The Shore of Raiders” (about the struggle of two Englishmen—a journalist and a fisherman—who were captured and ended up at a base of German submarines placed in an underwater cave on the British side of the English Channel) and “Air Alert” (about uncovering saboteurs at a military airfield).
