East, West

A new book from Booker Prize laureate Salman Rushdie, author of such famous works as “Midnight’s Children,” “The Moor’s Last Sigh,” “The Ground Beneath Her Feet,” and “Shame.”

“East, West” is a collection of short stories about the conflict between the old and the new, about longing for home places, and about the temptations of the unknown. The book reflects Rushdie’s own experience—his life in India and immigrant days in Britain.

The book’s three sections—“East,” “West,” and “East, West”—touch on common themes: forced relocations, poverty, intolerance, the clash of cultures and traditions, differences in moral systems and values of different countries and religions.
