“Resurrection” is Leo Tolstoy’s last novel (1828–1910). In it, the writer raises eternal questions—above all moral ones: about virtue, justice, about happiness and the meaning of life. The main character of the novel, Prince Nekhlyudov, as a juror at a trial, recognizes the defendant as Katerina Maslova, a maidservant he once seduced and abandoned. He decides to atone for his guilt before her.
