"Eight centimeters"... This book was written over five years by a sanitary worker at the Sukhumi hospital, Evdokia Afanasyevna Mukhina (née Melnikova), a deputy and a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Abkhaz ASSR. In September 1941, a 16-year-old Komsomol girl voluntarily enlisted in the Red Army. The little girl—she were assigned 13–14 years of age—after receiving a radio operator specialty in the army was thrown into the enemy’s rear. She helped scouts, underground fighters, and partisans, provided them with reliable communications, herself plotted enemy military targets on maps, and sometimes even adjusted strikes by our artillery and bombers.
