Two forces guard the ancient city and keep it safe from misfortunes. They are alkonoests—white guardians of the day—and ravens of Chernobog—guardians of the night. There are more white guardians. After all, guardians of the night are forced to fight with the impure and undead at the most dangerous time of day, and therefore they die more often.
One day, a young raven, Daniyar, turns out to be the only survivor among the night guards. Now he has to find three new raven recruits and save them from the bloodsuckers sent to hunt them. Which means he will have to search for lairs—unknown by whom and for what purpose the undead are being raised. How to keep up with everything? How to protect the living?
But soon Daniyar meets a young neighbor and, to his astonishment, realizes that Chernobog has decided to help his adept by giving him an introduction to the most valuable person in the world.
