Volokolamsk Highway

1 hr. 40 min.
Description
A radio drama by the Moscow Art Theatre (MHAT) based on Alexander Bek’s piece “Volokolamsk Highway.”

Alexander Bek’s book—a Soviet prose writer and front-line correspondent—“Volokolamsk Highway,” written between 1943 and 1944, tells about the feat of those soldiers and officers from a division under the command of Major General Ivan Panfilov who fought and died in the battle against the fascists near Moscow. The main character-narrator of the war story is the senior lieutenant of the battalion of the Panfilov rifle division, later a Hero of the Soviet Union, Baurjan Momysh-Uly. His memoirs about how and with what efforts the Soviet army managed to stop the strike of the German troops on Moscow from the Volokolamsk direction formed the basis of the book.
