Phileas Fogg, the novel’s main character, makes a bet that he will be able to circumnavigate the globe from west to east in 80 days. He faces a journey full of dangers, yet extremely exciting. It begins in England; then Fogg goes to France, Egypt, India, China, Japan, and America. In India, Phileas Fogg and his servant Passepartout rescue the beautiful Aouda, who later becomes the Englishman’s wife. The trip is hindered by the detective Fix: the police believe that it was Fogg who stole a large sum from the Bank of England, and the bet is only an opportunity to hide from the law.
