An Extraordinary Journey.” The novel’s hero, Phileas Fogg, bets that he can circumnavigate the globe from west to east in no more than 80 days—a record time at the time, considering the technical capabilities of the means of travel then in existence. Fogg’s voyage begins in England, then he goes to France, Italy, Egypt, India, China, Japan, and America.
