The Wars of the Roses

The Wars of the Roses

Description
The book is devoted to one of the most dramatic pages in English history—the War of the Roses, a series of dynastic armed conflicts of 1455–1485 that unfolded during the struggle for power between two branches of the House of Plantagenet: the Lancasters and the Yorks. It ended with the victory of Henry Tudor from a side branch of the Lancasters—the founder of the dynasty that later ruled England for more than a hundred years. Examining such a contradictory historical period, David Grummitt consistently presents the viewpoints of contemporary historians, using numerous new data, including that which he obtained himself during his academic research. In an accessible form, by describing this confrontation and reviewing the historical sources devoted to it, the author places the War of the Roses in the context of the personal experience of contemporaries of the events and shows the changes in society that it caused.
