Not far from the city of Budø in Northern Norway something strange happens: on the shore appear ancient porcelain dolls attached to wooden rafts, and then—an beaten unconscious girl, dressed as one of the dolls. At the same time, boys on the coast find a man submerged in icy water whose hands are chained to a stone—then another victim appears, belonging to an unknown criminal.
Police officer Rino Carlsen takes up the investigation. He’ll have to unravel a whole chain of terrible crimes. This novel by Norwegian writer F. Granhus is a vivid example of Scandinavian detective fiction, where the plot keeps the reader on edge until the very last page and doesn’t let them put the book down. It’s a story about how love turns into obsession with no limits or moral principles, blurs the line between good and evil, and drives people mad.
