Phil and George are brothers who own the richest ranch in the Montana valley. More than partners—and more than brothers. And despite their kinship, they are so unlike each other.

Phil is tall and angular. George is stocky and unflappable.

Phil is smart, perceptive, and prefers the company of simple cowboys over high society with its idle luxury. George is kind, silent, and—on the contrary—doesn’t befriend the ranch workers, devoting himself entirely to business.

For many years they shared the same room, handled farm work together, and went hunting together. But idyll comes to an end when George secretly marries Rose—a widow with a child and the owner of the local roadside inn. When Phil learns about it, he decides, at any cost, to destroy their marriage and bring back their former measured life…
