Konstantin Nikolayevich Leontyev (1831–1891) — an outstanding Russian philosopher, publicist, and writer, a late Slavophile.
Believing the main danger of modern civilization to be liberalism, with its “bourgeoisification” of everyday life and the cult of universal well-being, Leontyev preached “Byzantinism” (churchliness, monarchism, class hierarchy) and an alliance of Russia with Eastern countries as a protective measure against revolutionary upheavals.
In Soviet times, Leontyev’s works were not republished.
Leontyev’s main religious and philosophical ideas are reflected in his work “Byzantinism and Slavdom.”
