Vitaly Kalgin’s book about one of the brightest representatives of Russian rock, published in the famous ZHZL series, offers a view of the life and work of the founder and leader of the band “Kino” from a certain distance. The main value of this book lies in numerous primary sources (books, press publications, TV programs), as well as the memories of almost a hundred people who knew Tsoi—from parents and close like-minded friends to band colleagues and simply acquaintances. Thanks to this material, the cultural context in which the entire Leningrad rock scene of that time unfolded is recreated truthfully and impartially, including the story of the life, work, and tragic death of the idol of Soviet youth—Viktor Tsoi.
The audiobook is preceded by exclusive interviews recorded specifically for this project by journalist, cultural scholar, and well-known figure of Russian rock, former musician of the group “Zvuki Mu” Alexander Lipnitsky.
Bright and frank memories about Viktor Tsoi were shared by:
— the guitarist of “Kino” Yuri Kasparyan;
— Russian film director and producer Sergey Solovyov;
— musician, former member of “Aquarium” Vsevolod Gakkel;
— music critic Artemy Troitsky;
— leader of “Bravo” Evgeny Khavtan;
— Anastasia Kuryokhina, the widow of Sergei Kuryokhin, leader of the Russian musical avant-garde.
