The collection includes novellas and stories by Robert Lewis Stevenson. The shipwrecks of the Spanish Golden Armada off the coast of Scotland gave rise to a great number of rumors and superstitions. The young hero of the first novella, through the roar of the waves nicknamed the Funny Chaps, tries to uncover the mystery of the sunken ships. The remaining works, united by a mystical spirit, are sprinkled with a note of thrilling imagination of horror—whether it’s the story about the criminal Markheim (the story “The Murderer”), or the man possessed by the devil, Janet… But good, as it should, wins—though not always in the most predictable way.
