Alexandra Yakovlevna Brushtеin (1884–1968) is a Soviet writer who was born during turbulent years at the turn of the century. With surprising accuracy, she captured that complicated time in her autobiographical trilogy about Sashenka Yanovskaya. The pressing problems of society found a living response in Sashа’s soul. Trying to fight social injustice, she helped with word and deed those in need—everyone from whom it is so easy to turn away.
