The Very Probable Adventures of the Shrew and Her Impossible Crew

At exactly four o’clock I crawled out onto the deck in order to lie there and suffer while my companions ran the ship. To make their nights less unbearable, at first I told sea tales—Celtic, Scandinavian, Spanish, and French. And when the well-known tales ended, I began improvising on the spot, weaving our shared reality into an imaginary world. The story went on. The heroes were written from life—from my new friends. The adventures were invented based on the themes of their stories. And then I realized that I had to write all of this down.
