Description
“The Magnificent Ambersons” is a famous American novel from the early past century that won the Pulitzer Prize. It tells the story of the downfall of a wealthy family, all-encompassing love, and merciless pride. At the center is George Amberson, the last representative of an influential family, who—because of his egoism and spoiled upbringing—is ready to sacrifice the feelings of his closest people. But his world is doomed: the era of luxurious mansions, horse-drawn carriages, and landowners gives way to apartment buildings, cars, and enterprising businessmen. Yet only love remains unchanged—it alone can save George, who has lost his former “magnificence.”

The novel by Booth Tarkington, published in 1918, was acclaimed by both readers and critics, and it was adapted into film three times, with the most famous version released by Orson Welles in 1942.
