The Great Gatsby

F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940) is an American writer, author of many novels and stories about the “Jazz Age” generation, and a bright representative of the so-called “Lost Generation.” “The Great Gatsby” is his best-known novel, which became a symbol of the “Jazz Age.” America, the early 1920s—an era of “Prohibition,” gangster confrontations, dazzling lights, and a vivid, exhilarating life. The thirty-year-old Nick Carraway comes to New York to study banking, though deep down he nurtures a dream of writing. And he tells the reader about an incident he gets drawn into.

To escape the city heat, Nick rents a run-down little house in the West Egg suburb—on the shores of a bay where rich houses are located. The main character of the narrative becomes his closest neighbor: the owner of a grand palace, unknown to anyone, a mysterious and eccentric young man named Jay Gatsby—the Great Gatsby. He is the kind of man who created himself according to the recipes of American morality—one that’s very well off, yet despite all that, very lonely. The Great Gatsby’s love for Daisy becomes a huge tragedy for him…
