Vasily Polenov: A Lecture for the Exhibition

In the Tretyakov Gallery, a large exhibition is being held in honor of the 175th anniversary of Vasily Polenov, an important landscape master. To help you navigate among his works, we prepared a lecture about Polenov. The lecture covers not only his artistic works, but also various facets of his personality. Vasily Polenov was not limited to painting: he was an archaeologist, traveler, architect, and composer, whose opera was performed at the Moscow Conservatory. He also proved himself as an outstanding war correspondent.

In the lecture, we will discuss many of his talents and, of course, his paintings. We’ll talk about the significance of the Moscow courtyard in his work, discuss the “Gospel according to Polenov,” and touch on the American version of the work “Christ and the Sinful Woman,” as well as learn its cost.
