The Lenkom Theatre is not as generous with premieres as its fans would hope (a new production appears once every one or two seasons), but the scope and spectacle are guaranteed. Despite some slowness, Lenkom is sensitive to all sorts of theatrical trends: when everyone is swept up by Chekhov, Zakharov stages "The Seagull"; when a wave of Dostoevsky adaptations hits, the long-awaited premiere of "The Gambler" arrives.
