Captive of Greed

“F Territory” is a series of audiobooks introducing listeners to new names in children’s and teenage science fiction. The series is based on the shortlist of the eponymous literary contest organized by “1С-Publishing” together with the portal “Author.Today.” Sergey Pevteev is a young versatile science-fiction writer. He decided to try his hand at children’s literature as well and succeeded: with the novella “In the Clutches of Greed,” he made it to the final of the “F Territory” contest. Denis Archanov is only fourteen, but he has already achieved a lot. The boy is a prodigy. After passing all school exams externally, he is enrolled in one of the prestigious American universities. But life is sometimes cruel. The tragic death of his parents puts an end to Denis’s dreams of studying at university and serving science. Now he has no choice but to return to Russia to his grandmother, who lives in the backwaters. And there it’s not easy, because rural teenagers don’t really favor smart kids like him.

However, Denis doesn’t give up. Setting up a laboratory in the cellar, he prepares to make a scientific discovery. In practice, though, he opens a portal that leads to mines long abandoned. It turns out the mines aren’t empty: there are terrifying creatures living there that guard the gold. There’s plenty of gold, and no small number of people has been killed by it over the past century.
