In Another World: Notes from 2014–2017

Isabel Grav teaches theory and history of art at the Frankfurt University of Art “Städelschule,” and also works as a curator and editor of the critical publication Texte zur Kunst. In her new book, a collection of autofictional texts, she turns to personal experiences, trying to cope with the loss of her parents and her anxiety about possible future catastrophes through writing. Although the notes focus on personal and everyday observations, they lead to an understanding of external events transformed through the lens of her own experience. In her notes, reminiscent of mythological reflections by Roland Barthes, Grav explores significant changes in the political, social, and cultural spheres that occurred between 2014 and 2017—and their impact on her life.
