Odessa. The 1920s. The times of the Red Terror. The main character of the story is a young artist and former cadet named Dima, who perceives the terrible reality as a dream. In his feverish mind, horrifying scenes of interrogations and executions in the Cheka basements flash by in bright bursts. The horror of what is happening is emphasized by the hero’s peaceful childhood memories.
