Dronego is staying at the estate of an old friend with his wife—Elbrus Alkhasov, a former vice-prime minister. Here has gathered the whole big family of the retired official: his brother and son, his daughter with her husband, as well as guests and household staff. High social standing, wealth, honor… What else could be needed for a happy old age? But only at first glance, idyll reigns in the family of Elbrus Alkhasov. Many obvious—and unexplainable—things escape neither the shrewd Dronego nor anyone else’s notice. The atmosphere in the mansion rapidly heats up. Mutual hatred can no longer be hidden.
