1953, Soviet Estonia. The secret “Plant No. 7” ensures a steady supply of uranium to carry out the Soviet atomic project. Director Gakov learns of an upcoming sabotage at the plant. At the same time, mysterious murders begin to occur in the town. Meanwhile the country is entering an era of change—Stalin’s death alters the previous way of life.
The novel is based on the memories of residents of the closed city of Sillamäe, documentary materials, and reports from recently declassified CIA archives. The text includes originals of some documents.
