This edition of P. P. Bazhov’s works is published in three volumes. The first volume consists mainly of Bazhov’s early tales, written and published by him in the pre-war years and partly during the Great Patriotic War. These include cycles of semi-fantastic tales: about the Mistress of the Copper Mountain and marvelous craftsmen; mining tales—about Poloz (a serpent), about snakes that guard gold, and about the first discoverers; legends about the Old Urals. The second volume contains tales published by P. Bazhov at the end of the war and in the postwar years. They are written in a stricter realist manner, and there are almost no fantastic characters. Thematically, the narration in these tales reaches up to our days. The third volume includes the writer’s sketch and autobiographical works, articles, letters, and archival materials.
