Description
The history of the 19th century changed when Charles Babbage created the Analytical Engine, sparking a cybernetic revolution, and by the 1930s computers, the internet, email, and active network communication were already present in Europe.

Weimar, 1942. Here is the National Security Directorate, which since the time of Wilhelm II has controlled activity on the global network and has access to every piece of data ever created by citizens of the German Reich—whether it’s banking transactions, meetings, emails, diary entries, or expressions of opinion on the German Forum. The Directorate employs a programmer, Helena Bodenkamp, the daughter of the famous surgeon and eugenicist known throughout Germany. Her personal devotion to the regime begins to crumble under the pressure of private circumstances, and at the same time she learns that the head of her department, Eugen Lettke, the son of a First World War hero, is beginning to use the system for his own ends. Yet neither he nor she suspects what the new technologies can do under Germany’s historical conditions of the 1930s–1940s—and how terrifying technologies that seem so familiar can be.
