Rozanov’s book “Solitude” (1912) is a collection of scattered essay sketches, brief speculative thoughts, diary entries, and internal dialogues—united by mood.
In “Solitude,” Rozanov formulates his attitude toward religion. It resembles Leontiev’s attitude toward Christianity—that is, treating Christ as a personal God.
Before 1911, no one would have dared to call him a writer. At best, an essayist. But after “Solitude” was published, he was recognized as a creator and a Petersburg mystic.
