Description
Robert Mason’s autobiographical novel is a harsh, unsparing account of his service in Vietnam. A novel about how that single year of service affected the author’s entire subsequent life—somehow even more terrifying than the descriptions of countless bloody battles.

First published in the United States in 1983, Chickenhawk quickly became a national bestseller, and over the years has seen 23 US and UK editions, with total sales exceeding half a million copies. The novel remains popular with readers, who call it one of the best books about the Vietnam War.

In 2009, Andrey Lamtyugov, on his own initiative, made an amateur translation of the book. Under the title “Chicken and the Hawk” (“Цыпленок и ястреб”), it is posted on the translator’s personal page on the “Samizdat” site and in other public online libraries.
